I have been in practice as a Cranio Sacral Therapist since 1991. Prior to that, I was a dancer in Toronto and it was during that time that my interest in and knowledge of the human body was initiated. I continue to be endlessly fascinated and challenged by working with my clients. I have been living and working in private practice in the Port Hope area since 1992; my clients come from Oshawa, Bowmanville, Courtice, Clarington, Newcastle, Cobourg, Grafton, Colborne, Brighton, Trenton, Kingston and Peterborough.
My practice specializes in, but is not exclusive to, three specific areas of concern: TMJ, babies/children and women’s health. Please scroll down to find information specific to these three areas of health care.
What is Cranio Sacral Therapy?
Cranio Sacral therapy is a hands-on, holistic therapy that can be used to treat a wide variety of problems and help to relieve pain. It is extremely gentle and non-invasive; no force is used. After some years of research, it has been shown that each of us has a Cranio Sacral System inside us that is rhythmically moving all the days that we are alive. This rhythm can be monitored on any part of the body which can provide valuable information about a person’s health. The rhythm can be perceived in to the fascia in the body. Fascia is a three dimensional web of tissue that interpenetrates the entire body, connecting everything to everything else. The Cranio Sacral System encloses the brain and spinal cord, as well as the pituitary (master) and pineal glands. Thus Cranio Sacral treatments can have a direct and powerful influence over a wide variety of bodily functions.
How Does It Work?
The Cranio Sacral Therapist always looks for and treats the root cause of a person’s problem rather than treating the symptoms. Areas of restricted movement or energy flow are discovered using detailed assessment and very specific treatment techniques which are carried out in a respectful and gentle manner, thus allowing each patient to benefit from an efficient, personalized treatment. Treatments can often improve the function of the nervous and endocrine systems by improving the environment in which these systems reside. The therapist knows how to find areas of restricted movement that compromise healthy function in the body and chose from a number of techniques to aid the patient’s body to self-correct. Techniques may include treatment of disorders which originate from musculoskeletal, endocrine, circulatory, lymphatic, visceral or nervous system dysfunctions and the relationships which exist between these various systems .These techniques work in harmony with the body’s natural process in order to achieve better function, relieve pain and promote healing. The therapist works with the patient’s body, not on the patient’s body, helping to facilitate changes that the body is ready and able to make.
What to Expect from Your First Visit
The first step in any consultation is to listen to the patient explain the reasons for the visit and to review in detail the history of injuries and illness. There is always ample opportunity for questions to be asked and answered. Following that, the therapist examines the patient by observation of posture and movement as well as by precise but gentle palpation. In this way, a source of the problem is identified and a treatment plan developed. Each treatment is carried out in a respectful manner and there is always room for a sense of humour!
Who Can Benefit?
People of all ages who suffer from pain, stiffness, fatigue, dizziness, weakness or numbness can benefit from Cranio Sacral treatments. Symptoms may arise as a result of accident, injury, repetitive strains, inactivity, degenerative or arthritic changes, pregnancy and childbirth or following surgery or dental work. Immune system function is enhanced, stress levels are reduced, hormone balance is improved and a sense of well-being is heightened.

TMJ Pain and Cranio Sacral Therapy
Anybody with jaw pain is likely familiar with the term “TMJ”. The letters TMJ stand for “temporal mandibular joint” which is the name of the jaw joint and is also the name given to the syndrome of jaw pain. Severe TMJ pain can be brought on by simple actions such as opening your mouth to speak, brushing your teeth, or yawning. TMJ is often accompanied by teeth grinding.
The causes of TMJ are varied but in 80% of all cases it is caused by structural problems in the bones, ligaments, muscles, nerves and blood vessels in and around the jaw joint. The jaw joint is a complex area of the body and often all it takes is one little misalignment and you’ve got serious problems.
But the good news is that, with Cranio Sacral treatment, this can all change. These gentle, manipulative treatments can address problems found in both the soft and hard tissues of the jaw and often it takes only a few treatments to solve a pain problem.
I have been practicing Cranio Sacral Therapy since 1991 and have had some remarkable success in treating TMJ. Please call me for a free telephone consultation and begin a journey that could free you from jaw pain forever.

Cranio Sacral Therapy for Babies and Children
There are many reasons and advantages for babies and children to receive Cranio Sacral treatments: they are extremely gentle and non-invasive, they work with the body to help to achieve the desired changes without force and they enhance the body’s natural desire to achieve optimum health. I work with the client’s body, not on the client’s body.
I have been in practice since 1991 (first in Toronto and now in the Port Hope area) and during that time have treated a number of babies and children. Problems I have successfully treated include colic, torticollis, chronic ear infections, dyslexia, tearing eyes, breast-feeding problems, strabismus (crossed eyes) and sleep disorders.
I attempt to create an environment that is welcoming, calm and nurturing for both children and parents. My office is in a century home surrounded by gardens, providing a respite for children who have had many visits to various doctors and have perhaps become tired or frightened of a more sterile environment. I like to engage the patient in the treatment process (in an age-appropriate manner) and give them some sense of control.
I encourage parents to give me a call if they have questions or want more information. I will spend a few minutes answering all questions honestly and to the best of my ability and it will cost nothing. I welcome scepticism and will only try to provide you with information so that you can make an educated choice regarding your child’s health care rather than try to talk you into something that may not be right for you. There are times when Cranio Sacral treatments may not be beneficial and, if I feel that this is the case, I will tell you and I will attempt to redirect your inquiries to a more suitable health care provider.
My mandate is to help the client, not keep the client.

Cranio Sacral Therapy for Women
Women face unique challenges regarding their health; they can become pregnant and give birth, they have powerful monthly hormonal shifts which for some, wreaks havoc on their emotional and physical well-being and they undergo tremendous hormonal changes during menopause. For women who are looking for an alternative or compliment to the Western medical health care model, Cranio Sacral Therapy may be the answer; it is gentle and non-invasive, working with the body to achieve the desired changes without force and enhancing the body’s natural desire to achieve optimum health.
I like to work with the client’s body, not on the client’s body.
I have been in private practice as a Cranio Sacral Therapist since 1991, currently working from my office just outside of Port Hope. I have a particular interest in women’s health issues and have had success in treating many problems that women face, including painful periods or excessive bleeding, post partum depression, PMS, hot flashes and other hormone-related challenges.
I encourage potential clients to give me a call if they have questions or want more information. I will spend a few minutes answering all questions honestly and to the best of my ability and it will cost nothing. I welcome scepticism and will only try to provide you with information so that you can make an educated choice regarding your own health care rather than try to talk you into something that may not be right for you. There are times when Cranio Sacral treatments may not be beneficial and if I feel that this is the case, I will tell you and I will attempt to redirect your inquiries to a more suitable health care provider.
My mandate is to help the client, not to keep the client.
