Yes B’y

A recent trip to Newfoundland where I got to stay put for almost a month in a little house with two cats right by the sea influenced this series of mixed media pieces. The friendly generous people, the thick fog and the sound of the fog horn in the distance sounding every twenty seconds, the icy cold mornings even in June, the incessant drizzle, the magical magnificent icebergs and the landscape - raw, majestic, threatening, expansive, stunningly beautiful, breathtaking - all added up to a set of experiences I will never forget. Staying as I was in a remote part of the province, I spent most of my time alone, either working at my art or exploring some of the many hiking trails where I usually didn't see another soul but was taken through a landscape that touched me deeply. This series was inspired by those experiences, the history I learned about while there, the incredible conversations I had with strangers and my response to the land, sea and sky.

The expression "yes b'y" is commonly heard in Newfoundland as a term of agreement (sometimes used sarcastically), awe, amazement or disbelief.
